As a part of a £1 billion refurbishment, it was announced that BBC News was to move to Broadcasting House from its former base at BBC Television Centre. Along with 6,000 staff from audio and vision departments in several BBC buildings, BBC News is in the process of migrating to a new centre in Central London. The new home includes a newsroom built within an 11-storey atrium and several state-of-the-art television studios. Staff and television programmes commenced migration in 2012 with the intention to have removed all staff from Television Centre by 2013. Some domestic television news programmes, such as Newsnight moved to Broadcasting House in October 2012 and the international channel BBC World News began broadcasting from their new base at 12:00 GMT on 14 January 2013.
